How to get there
As you leave Los Angeles and head north on US Highway 101, you will join up with California’s Pacific Coast Highway just outside of Oxnard, CA. Shoreline Park
I suggest starting your visit at Shoreline Park. The city as set up a long paved sidewalk that wanders along the beach and passes through green areas. It offers volleyball areas, picnic areas, wide bike paths that lead all the way to the marina. The morning sky was overcast and it was cool. Both residents and tourists use this area for exercise and sightseeing. Many of the more upscale hotels and restaurants are located on this stretch of beach.
If you get there on a weekend and the weather is good, the park sponsors an Art Fair almost every weekend on Saturday and Sundays. Featuring paintings, various artisans and crafts people, food trucks, wine tasting, and things for the kids, this art fair is always crowded and fun. Parking can be difficult. There are so many people, so bring your patience.
Streans Wharf
Located in the center of the Shoreline Park, is the oldest wharf in California, Stearns Wharf. Visitors to the wharf can see spectacular sunsets and views of Santa Barbara’s incredible beauty. They can also watch fishing boats unload the day’s catch, fish for your own seafood catch, taste wines from some of the local vineyards, and eat everything from fast food to fine dining. To drive onto the wharf and park is restricted and expensive, however to walk on to the wharf is free!
Old Mission Santa Barbara
Old Mission Santa Barbara, often called the “Queen of the Missions,” is a historic Spanish mission founded in 1786 by Father Fermin Lasuén. It is the tenth of the 21 California missions.
